Following the decision by the Mississippi Gaming Commission to allow Mississippi casinos to reopen at 8 a.m. Thursday, May 21, Mayor George Flaggs Jr. announced the citywide curfew will end Thursday, May 21 at 5 a.m.
The curfew has been a long-standing component of the city’s civil emergency plan and had been enforced each evening from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
While the citywide curfew will expire, Flaggs said the juvenile curfew, which is in place from 7:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. each evening will remain. He said it is unlikely the juvenile curfew will be extended beyond June 1.
The current civil emergency plan, which was revised last week to allow the reopening of salons, barbershops and gyms, was extended to Monday, June 1. It is expected that plan will be amended before next Thursday to remove the citywide curfew.
