China’s Car Sales Suffer Worst-Ever Quarter as Coronavirus Destroys Demand


SHANGHAI—Auto makers in China suffered their bleakest ever quarter in January through March, as the coronavirus pandemic closed factories and dealerships for several weeks, and eviscerated consumer demand.

Quarterly sales declined 42% on year to 3.7 million vehicles, the government-backed China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said Friday.
